Stefan Minovici and Traian Basescu, the President of Romania, met again at the US Chamber of Commerce in Washington during his three-day visit to the United States in July 2006. Among the issues discussed during the meetings were national security (border and coastal surveillance), visa waiver programs for the Romanian citizens and the NATO role in the Balkans and Romania.
