On May 5, 2000 on Wall Street, the financial capital of the world, Romania came alive with its culture, history, music and food.

With generous support from various sponsors and the approval of New York City’s Mayor, Rudolph Giuliani, a portion of Wall Street was closed to traffic on that day between the hours of 8 a.m. and 6 p.m., so that the Romanian Street Festival-complete with food, folklore and artifacts from the old country could take place.

The day ended with a tennis match featuring Romania’s own legendary champion, Ilie Nastase and tennis star Dumitru Haradau.

Among the honored guests at this unprecedented event was King Michael of Romania and the entire Royal family, as well as numerous other officials, celebrities, diplomats, politicians, and business leaders.

A heartfelt “Thank you!” to all those who agreed to participate in this first ever Romanian Day Festival. Special thanks to Mr. Sorin Rosca Stanescu, the Director of Omega Press Investments who helped us organize and bring this festival to fruition. The event has now become a New York City tradition!
